I was just wasting time on Facebook, and saw on somebody's little tagline that they were home. It struck me. I don't have a clue where my home is anymore. Justin and I are homeless.
It was easy for the first 19 years of my life. My home was in Cranbrook, and I loved it. I loved Fisher Peak and the Steeples being at my doorstep. I loved the green, lush Kinsmen Park up the road from my house, with the creek washing away the dirt, leaving the cool, clear water flowing through my toes. I loved that everywhere I looked, there was a memory of sometime in my past, some recent, some from years and years before. I loved going to the same church and knowing the same people there from the time I was born until the time I got married and moved away.
And that's just it. Then I moved away. But Justin was with me, and we made a new home for ourselves in Burnaby. Although it took awhile. For the first year, I remember feeling lost and alone, not connected to any new friends and not connected to our old friends in the same way as it had been in good old Cranbrook. But we made new friends. We bought our very own apartment, before any other couples even thought it was possible to own their own place. And I loved our home. I looked outside and saw trees. I sat on my deck and felt the sun on my face, or sat in the office and watched the rain fall on my plants sitting outside, soaking it all in.
And then we moved again. Honestly, this is ridiculous. But Golden was a different kind of home for us. We knew we wouldn't be there forever, and our days off were spent more often exploring our surroundings like we were tourists than residents. We bought our home, 10 months after we moved there. And I loved our home. I looked outside and saw trees, sat on my swing and looked to the hillside behind our house. I traisped through the snow and loved my little kingdom.
And then we moved again.
Now we are in a town that I'm not sure we fit in. People are still mean, and stories are difficult to cover here. And our church and our care group and all the people we are just now starting to connect with live basically half an hour away. And I don't know what I love about this community. It smells funny, and I am not loved, or even liked, by a lot of people.
And my brother is in Alberta, and my parents are in Cranbrook, and our friends from our past life are just far enough out of reach that it is not easy to connect but not easy to disconnect.
I want a home where I have room to breathe. I want a home where our dogs can chase each other and we can lounge in the sun again. I want to plant sunflowers and vegetables and be there long enough to reap the benefits. And I want all that sooner, not later.
Sigh . . .
Sometimes witty, always original. But it's my little home on the blogosphere, and I like it.

Just cuz
I'm getting tired of looking at my own blog as it has not been updated in weeks. Also, everyone else's except Ryan. You all suck.
Also, how come no one emails or calls anymore. Have I fallen off the list? I guess it's my own fault. You know, "Be a friend to make a friend" and all that...
Anyway, I really have nothing to write about. Well, I had an editor's meeting all the way into Surrey today. 200 km round trip to listen to other editors talk about their problems. I guess it was good to get to know a few more people. Plus, my old editor was there for his new paper. It was good to talk to him after for awhile. Of course, then I got to drive home smack in the middle of rush hour. Yeah, that was fun. Then after being home for a total of 20 minutes, I had to drive into Harrison to attend a public meeting, which kept me until 9:30 tonight. So, all in all, a fairly typical day for me.
I got new glasses, which I love. No photo yet. Justin also got glasses. No photo yet.
Justin and I are going to a Bible study now. We started in early September. It rocks. There are a lot of good, solid people there, ones that I know will keep us on track with our walks and hold us accountable. They really listen and seem to have sincere hearts, none of this 'let's say what sounds right' or anything, so that's awesome. We have like six or seven other couples in the group, and there is lots of diversity. One couple has a new baby, she is soooooo adorable. And a total angel too. Their daughter actually sleeps pretty much all night and the new momma says it is actually going much easier than she anticipated.
In other news, Lucy is freezing. She has no heating whatsoever. But I love driving her. She is just way too much fun, and she is a keen listener, especially since I have no stereo hooked up. She makes a great private singing chamber as I scoot from one assignment to the next.
Well, I'm exhausted. Off to bed.
Now blog, people, blog!

Fall Fair fun
My town had its annual fall fair last weekend. It was a blast.
Our work put a float in the parade. I love a good parade, but have only been in one or two in my life. To be honest, I enjoy watching them more, but this was cool too.

Who's that hansome man taking photos along the route?

Some random photos of the day (sorry they're sideways. Can't be bothered to switch them now!)

The Roths came out to enjoy the day at the fair too. We didn't get to hang out with Nancy as much because Mr. Nathan required some attention from his momma, but we still had a great day with them. Colin and Justin went in a corn shucking (?) contest, we all watched the veeerrrry exciting tractor pull, ate yummy corn, watched some entertainment, checked out the exhibits on display and the animals for 4H. It was fun.

Showers of blessing
I had the priveledge of attending a shower last Sunday for two very special new babies. There were lots of ladies, presents, games, food and fun.
The happy mommas and their new little ones:

Awwww!

Marillee came up with some pretty funny game to play. This is kind of like pin the tail on the donkey...

I made Nancy a 'diaper cake'. Just like what it sounds like. However, I totally forgot to take a picture of the cake at the party with the cute giraffe ring toy that went with it. It had little baby bath items on it as decorations, a few little scrapbook stickers and a monkey hand ring, and soothers tied to the ribbons.

Justin and I had so much fun making it. I'd seen a diaper cake on a baby gifts website and I knew that would be the perfect gift for Nancy, as she used to have her 'Nancy's Fancies' business and always makes such nice cakes for everyone else.
