Oh Isaac

Our boy has started group speech therapy again. Today is week two of six. So far Justin has taken him and it's nice to be able to relax at home a bit by myself. Promise is having a rough sleep so my plan to do some scrubbing in the tub (her exercauser) will once again have to wait. Darn, guess that means a second cup of coffee and catching up on some blog stuff for me. Cue happy dance.

Isaac puts the cereal boxes away after breakfast every morning. Last week, he's taking them back one at at time and saying, "One away." It sounded like run away. But I don't think he's planning on going anywhere, he kinda likes it here. Anyway, it made me laugh.

He's definitely becoming a little wordsmith. Yesterday he rolled too far on the change pad and I said he was "far away." Not a phrase we use frequently around here, but for the rest of the diaper change he kept repeating "far away."

While his words are definitely on the rise, he still can't say the "c" sound, which drives us mental. We play cars all day, every day in every which way, yet they're still "Rrrrs." We also play with "tru's (trucks) and we're "waffle" (careful) on the stairs.

Isaac knows all the letters of the alphabet now and can identify any letter when we ask him for it (like the magnets on the fridge, or if I draw a letter). We think that's pretty cool. And he can now count to four. Yay!

He has been sick for the last week and passed it on to Promise early this week. While he's not throwing up any more and his cough is getting better, the kid's nose won't stop running. It's like a dripping faucet that drips sticky gunky goo. And because he's two, it doesn't just get wiped with a tissue. It's all over his hands, arms and toys too. So once the nose stops, Mommy is going to be doing a serious clean of all the well gooed toys around here. Oh the jobs joys of mommyhood.

Some of Isaac's favourites lately:
Reading

Eating

Playing cars (always playing with cars)

Hanging out with Grandpa and Grandma

And just playing in general and, of course, being a boy

I thought he might be interested in play food now so I asked Mom to keep her eyes out. About 2.5 seconds later (ok, maybe the next day), she found a bag of them at our favourite thrift store – Bibles for Missions. He played a lot with them yesterday at my parent's house and we brought them home and played all morning before speech therapy. It makes sense he loves play food since he loves real food too. He pretends to eat the stuff but more than that, he loves to share with us and have us eat the food he gives us. I think that's sweet though it will probably get tiring fast : )

We went for another "hike" last Friday to Cheam Wetlands. Isaac loved it this time, picking up sticks and rocks and looking like a little explorer. We want our kids to embrace the outdoors and as much as it refreshes me and brings me closer to God, I want my kids to have the same connection.

Isaac still loves his sister but doesn't love sharing Mommy's time. He's great when I'm nursing her but after that it's "Mommy, mat!" That's OK, he's still just two and I think considering how well he is with Promise, it's understandable he wants his mommy all to himself too. Actually, he doesn't mind if she sits in the bumbo and watches us, but she's not a fan of the bumbo for too long so that doesn't work out very well.

Isaac is growing so fast, we can hardly believe that's still our same boy that we brought home from the hospital in November, 2010. He is the bestest little son we could ask for and we love him like crazy.

Note how he's playing playdough. With cars. Because everything is better with cars.
