My boy in the moonlight

I love cuddle time with Isaac in the middle of the night. There's nothing else more important to draw my attention away than just to hold my boy as I walk him back to his room and take time to snuggle him into my neck before changing him and putting him back to bed. I relish these moments, and know beyond any shadow of doubt that I will miss them like crazy when they're gone.

25 thoughts as they pop into my head

Just 'cuz I can:

1. My butt hurts. I have had this same office chair since at least high school if not junior high. I deserve a new chair.
2. I love the lamp sitting on my desk. It was my great grandmother's, who I called 'Granny'. I never got to know her well as she was in the hospital most of my life before she died. But I loved her especially because she meant so much to my dad. Love how he loves people so deeply and cares enough to be there for family.
3. I can't believe Isaac is 18 weeks old already. Crazy.
4. I wish I was smaller and sporty instead of larger and lazy. What else is new?
5. My favourite TV shows now are The Office, Parks & Recreation, Outsourced mostly for the awesome true-to-life head bobs (at least, they totally did that in India's neighbouring country Sri Lanka) and The Amazing Race.
6. I still love movie night dates with my amazing hubby. Nothing like pizza, pop, comfortably lounging on the couch watching a funny flick or awesome action movie
7. My pop of choice these days is root beer.
8. I had a dream last night that I was trying to buy a plastic lunch box full of sushi for my friend Becky and was trying to decide if I should since it might not taste so fresh by the time I got it to her. The lunch box was bright primary colours and was busted open.
9. I had a dream the other night that Justin was frustrated at Isaac for crying. Woke up thinking it was real only to find my hubby sleeping peacefully next to me and Isaac sound asleep in his crib.
10. I call myself 'Loreny beanie' sometimes when I'm talking to myself.
11. I started attending a Moms group at our church. I've only been a few times and already am enjoying it immensely.
12. I'm writing this blog post instead of writing POC. Yup, that's still going on too.
13. 25 things are hard to come up with. Apparently thoughts don't pop into my head as fast as I thought they would...
14. I have a tealight holder that Nancy painted and used to hang at Salty Shack. I really miss that place, and often think of that period in our life. I will never forget some of life's most perfect moments spent when it was just me and Justin and Nancy and Colin at that special part of heaven on earth.
15. I will also never forget the bats, spiders, mice, smell of musty cabin inside when we hadn't been there in awhile and the shock of cold water when I jumped in.
16. Speaking of cabins, can't wait to get up to Purden again. Going there for my 30th birthday this year - yip yip hooray!
17. Not as freaked out about turning 30 as I thought. Possibly because I feel more alive now than I have ever, with the amount of bubbly happy emotions always spilling out of me these days. I've become a gushing mushy momma, and I love every moment of it.
18. I need to eat more fibre. This is the problem a 60 year old should have, not a 29 year old. But that's OK.
19. I miss traveling. I think when POC is done, me and Justin and our babe have to pack up and drive somewhere new, if only for a few days.
20. I adore our home. I love its functionality, its location and the fact that it will always be the place I brought my baby home from the hospital to.
21. Correct English dictates you do not end a sentence with 'to'.
22. My poor cat is severely neglected now. I feel badly for him, but not enough to pay him attention. My emotional energy is spent after Isaac and Justin.
23. We had a picnic dinner tonight even though it was rainy outside. Shake 'n bake chicken, macaroni salad and deviled eggs. Summer is just around the corner : )
24. So close to the end of my 25 things now.
25. I'm tired. Good night.

Some random thoughts

I love that the older I get, the more interesting I am becoming to myself. I feel bad for the people who peak out in high school or early 20's and are always talking about what they used to do instead of what they are doing or still want to do in life.

Speaking of peaking out in high school, I'm sick of looking like I'm still a couple months pregnant. Now that our Baby Whisperer baby is starting to sleep literally like a dream, it's time for Momma to reclaim her body. As in, needing to lose a good 30 pounds. Lots to lose, but lots to live for too so it's totally worth it : )

I can't wait to take Isaac traveling with us some day. Justin and I already talk longingly about bringing Isaac to Africa and open his eyes to this big beautiful world of ours.

There's a blog I read mostly just for her amazing music selection. Love discovering new tunes that I become obsessed with listening to over and over. Recent faves?

The blog is:
http://www.kellehampton.com/

She has a daughter with Down's Syndrome, and reading her birth story is one of the most touching things I have ever read. I've read it a couple times over now and have wept each time. And to see their lives now, I think nearly a year later? Beautiful.

I use " : ) " way too often to express myself. I'm a writer for pity's sake, and I can't seem to convey emotion through my words anymore without using ridiculous punctuation tricks like :( , : ) , or ! Blah, exclamation marks are far too overused these days and I'm becoming part of the problem, not the solution.

I posted a funny sign I saw at a corner store that had some incorrect English usage, and one of the people who commented on it used the wrong form of 'there / their / they're'. That made me laugh.

Life is good right now. But I gotta get back to some POC writing now. Good night! I mean... Good night : ) ... Nope, try again... Good night.

My baby boy

Isaac is such a blessing. I still have at least one time every day where I look at him and really can't believe he is mine. What did I do to deserve such blessing in my life? He is so full of life and brings me immeasurable joy. When he smiles I feel like my face might burst because I simply cannot smile any wider. I love him so much!!

He's four months old now! Some days it seems like he is still so new in my life, other days it feels like I've been his momma forever. Every day is a new experience with Isaac as he learns about the world around him, about his own body, and as he gazes into my face with such pure love and joy it makes my heart just leap.

At night time when we put him down and he's upset, and I come into his room to comfort him, sometimes he gives me the biggest smile when he sees me come in. I LOVE it, knowing that just my presence calms him down and often makes him happy. Being a mom is the best job in the world!

Moments captured

I've decided to start blogging again, not really for anyone else but more as a way to record the days and moments spent so I can look back and remember.

Since Isaac was born I have struggled to record day to day life with him. Early on everything was just so hard that I never had a moment to take and write down anything. Now, I write in my journal as often as I think of it but that isn't often enough. I've also got a wall calendar I just started using to write down moments as they happen.

But I find that looking back over my blog, I'm often reminded of things I did and places I went that I otherwise would have completely forgotten about were they not mentioned in my blog.

And since I am in theory into scrapbooking but in reality haven't done it in years, a blog seems like the next best thing. This way, I can keep photos, jot down events that happen, maybe even post short videos, and have it all in one handy place.

So here's to recording the moments that are special, that are fleeting, that are magical and mundane. They're my moments. Live on.

17 weeks and counting

Our baby is 17 weeks old today! It always seemed funny to me how moms would count the weeks of their baby being in their belly in the way I just did. After all, technically the baby is not 17 weeks old until s/he has been out of mama's belly for three months and a week. But now I find myself counting the weeks our babe has been growing.

This week, s/he has eyebrows and eyelashes filling in and is starting to form fat to help with his / her heating system and metabolism.

Hmm, this whole s/he, and his / her thing might get annoying really quickly. For the sake of ease, I might just refer to baby as 'him' or 'her' without actually having anything to base it on. Lots of moms say they get a feeling of what they're carrying. Maybe I will when I'm further along, but for now I have no idea! I just pray we have a boy or a girl, I've read horror stories of babies born with bits from both genders and the parents have to decide which gender the baby is and sometimes they guess wrong. That would be awful.

There's lots of stuff like that I worry about. One of the biggest is worrying that our baby will have Down's Syndrome, or that their brain won't be fully developed in some other way. Those thoughts scare me. Every day I pray for Pea Pod's health. It's scary enough thinking of raising a child, let alone a child with disabilities. So I pray steadfastly, knowing at the same time that what God wills for my child is more loving and big and purpose-filled than what I could ever dream for my own.

17 weeks down, 23 to go. I can't wait!

Online parenting sites suck

So I joined one of those online parenting groups, where moms all get together and ask silly questions and bond and stuff. Figured maybe I should somehow get connected to other pregnant women, so I found a site that had a 'December 2010 birth club'. Sounded like a good idea.

Of course the website wanted my biographical information so I enter it all in figuring it will be worth it for the wealth of knowledge I'll receive once I can join the forum of my fellow preggos.

Yeah. The forum is basically full of garbage. Either it's women posting threads about how fat they feel and then posting angrily about people calling them fat, or it's about them panicking over stuff that to me just seems ridiculous. Or it's about what they call their baby right now. Some had really awful names like 'demon spawn'. Others responded saying it was funny because the baby sucks the life out of you. But doesn't that seem a little cruel?

Anyway, guess I won't be connecting on the internet with other moms anytime soon. I sure wish there were people in my group of Fraser Valley friends that were pregnant at the same time. Our old Coquitlam care group all had babies at like the EXACT same times. It's crazy, some of them were born days apart from each other. One set of couples, one of whom we used to hang out with, even were in labour on the exact same day.

And here I am, with a care group full of moms with the youngest baby being I think two months old now. That means he'll be a year old when our pea pod is born. And everyone I ask says they'll probably be having more kids but nothing cooking in the oven right now. Boo!

Oh well, guess that's life. God's timing is always perfect, and He is definitely the creator of this little life of ours. It's so incredible to me to think that God uses people like me to bring His most intricate, amazing creations into the world He lovingly made.

It amazes me that of all the ways He could bring a child into this world, He trusts it to people who mess up and don't eat their veggies all the time, who sin, who abuse their bodies, who don't get enough sleep or not enough exercise - you get the idea. I guess it's like God's plan for the world too. He has given Christians the task of sharing the Good News with the world even though we mess up and make mistakes and everything. Isn't that amazing?!
